Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass
Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) is a well-established bariatric metabolic procedure involving creating a small ‘pouch’ out of the stomach and ‘bypassing’ a section of the small bowel.
RYGB works through a combination of restriction, absorption and hormonal changes leading to decreased appetite and weight loss.
RYGB is often a better operation choice in patients with severe reflux disease or revision post sleeve gastrectomy as it diverts the bile away from the upper gastrointestinal tract and reduces the incidence of post-operative reflux.
