Removal of Lap Band

Laparoscopic adjustable gastric bands have historically been very commonly used for weight loss.

Removal may be recommended when symptoms or complications arise. These can include reflux, pain, difficulty swallowing, band slippage, erosion or oesophageal failure.

Surgically the band and the port are removed laparoscopically (keyhole). This may be performed as a stand-alone procedure or part of a revisional procedure where a gastric bypass is performed depending on individual patient goals and weight loss history.
